Unilateral Economic Disarmament, Anyone?

Claim:

“This bill is a blueprint for unilateral economic disarmament of the U.S.”

— Rep. Charles Boustany (R-LA), 6/26/09

Truth:

The American Clean Energy Clean Energy and Security Act will boost our economy by creating manufacturing jobs and investing in clean energy.

www.LessCarbonMoreJobs.org is an interactive website that analyzes the manufacturing jobs that are being created, and the many more that will be created under the ACES Act.

The ACES Act will also protect our families’ wallets and electricity bills.

“The ACES Act will also protect our families’ wallets and electricity bills”.

What am I missing here. Solar and Wind energy cost more then current energy production. Electric rates will, therefore, increase. How does this protect my electricity bill — which will be going up?

You guys must really be stupid to think the average US citizen cannot think for ourselves!
Both solar and wind energy are not 100% trustful energy sources!
Solar energy FAILS when there is no sun.
Wind energy FAILS when there is no wind.
You cannot use either source in every place in the USA!
What are you going to do?
Do you plan on giving home owners the tools needed to upgrade our houses?
And, since I can’t get one of those jobs how do you figure I’m going to benefit from increased jobs?
The only people benefiting from this will be those who own the corporations offering this energy, and those government officials who get kick backs from it!

Solar and wind cost more than current electricity production because they are based on sustainable living. The energy produced from coal and natural gas is known as non-renewable, meaning it does not last forever and is therefore unsustainable. They pollute the environment that we depend on. We should not base our energy economy on temporary solutions like these. Look to your children, to the generations that will follow after us, and build a future that is right for them. This is what our forefathers did before us, and this is the legacy we must continue.

Current electricity rates are cheap to the consumer because they do not factor in the true costs. Fossil fuels are subsidized by the government, similar to what the new Clean Energy Act proposes to do with renewables. Currently, many power plants produce electricity so cheaply because of their complete disregard of the environment. They are so cheap because they do not take action to control their emissions.

Where I’m from, Allegheny County Pennsylvania, we enjoy the cheapest electricity rates in the country. $0.058 per kilowatt-hour is the going rate. We are also home of the top polluting coal power plants in the country. I am not proud to live in a place where cheap inefficient energy is produced and consumed with such blatant disregard for the purity of our environment. We are fools to think that we can survive without a planet.

The comments I have read from other users suggest complete ignorance and selfishness. Once again, there is no concern for the environment or the future, only what your artificially subsidized lifestyle will cost you. I do not blame you. However, I am very sorry that we as a nation have produced this kind of ignorant selfishness. I hope that the EDF and other grassroots networks are successful redefining the values of the American public.
