Going Back to Hunting and Gathering

Claim:

“This will bring us back to hunting and gathering.”

— Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R-MI), 6/26/09

Truth:

Really? We’ll go back to hunters and gatherers? Yikes!

Since the survivalist skills we’ll need have fallen into disuse, perhaps we should all take a trip to the Smithsonian Natural History Museum to learn about hunting and gathering before the collapse of civilization. Americans will need to familiarize ourselves with edible plants — big printings of the Peterson Field Guide to Edible Wild Plants should commence right away.

This kind of absurd hyperbole does nothing to advance arguments against this bill. Contrary to what Rep. McCotter may think, America’s future under this bill is clean and prosperous, not apocalyptic.

Your sarcastic comments are not doing any of us any good either.
Democrats make a lot of empty promises, and defend things we should be fighting against!
We will see in time if your environmental ideologies actually stand.
Maybe if the liberals stop giving our money to irresponsible and undeserving corporations, and instead support the costs of living of the average American citizen this new bill MIGHT work.
Otherwise, the average US citizen is going to collapse financially!

Where to start. The problem with facts & figures are that if you don’t like what you see, you ignore them and basically create your own. Or you commit the most irresposible thing of all, you ignore other mitigating factors. I don’t see any point in arguing temperature levels, left wing says one thing and right wing says another. It also does little good to point out that the left wing shares a lot of responsibility for the proliferation of fossil fuels, you killed the nuclear power plants? Remember?
My basic arguement is neither side looks at reality. WE do need desparately to develope alternate sources of energy, if only to free ourselves from the constant screwing we are getting by the oil industry.
Lying and hand wringing about false gobal ecological issues isn’t going to get us anywhere. The temperature spike co-insides with a geo-thermal increase of activity, volcanoes anyone? Each small eruption spits out more polutants than mankind in all his time and glory has ever contributed?
The scare tactics just won’t work.

Wait a minute, it got rid of the nuclear power plants, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, public opinion was swayed and the nukes were goners.

Maybe you’re on to something. How far back do you want to set us this time? Maybe the “hunting & gathering” hyperbole is as far off as it seems.
