November 2025: Electric trucks, buses round-up

• FedEx has ordered 53 Class 5 and 6 electric trucks from startup Harbinger — aimed at cost-competitive, vertically integrated medium-duty EVs — to support its goal of fully electrifying its pickup –and delivery fleet by 2040, with deliveries expected by late 2025. 
• The Toledo Area Regional Transportation Authority has launched 11 new electric buses as part of its TARTA Zero plan to transition entirely to electric vehicles by 2040, building on last year’s deployment of six para-transit EVs and aiming for cleaner, quieter, more reliable transit. 

Medium- and heavy-duty electric vehicles are hitting the road in 2025, and we’ve collected last month’s most exciting news. After another record year of zero-emission truck deployments in 2024, this year promises more big announcements. This monthly blog series will showcase the biggest orders and deployments of zero-emission trucks happening around the country. 

November announcements include a large order for new medium-duty electric trucks from a delivery giant, and a transit agency making strides towards their 2040 zero-emission goal.  

FedEx invests in Harbinger, places electric truck order 

FedEx has placed an order for 53 Class 5 and 6 electric trucks from startup Harbinger. The medium-duty trucks are expected to be delivered for final upfitting by the end of 2025. Harbinger seeks to fill a niche in the medium-duty trucks market by offering vertical integration strategies rather than retrofitting existing medium-duty chassis, keeping purchase costs close to those of similar diesel models. FedEx has a goal to electrify its entire pickup and delivery  fleet by 2040.  

TARTA introduces 11 electric buses as part of zero-emission initiative 

The Toledo Area Regional Transportation Authority introduced 11 new electric buses as part of their TARTA Zero initiative. The organization is aiming to have all electric vehicles by 2040. TARTA deployed six para-transit vehicles last year and is excited about continued progress towards their zero-emission goal. The buses offer increased reliability and lifespan, with additional benefits like air quality improvements and noise reduction.  

Now is a critical time for fleets to invest in medium- and heavy-duty electric trucks. These vehicles improve public health and help combat the climate crisis by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. Unlike traditional diesel-powered trucks, electric trucks produce no tailpipe emissions, which significantly cuts down on health-harming pollution. Adoption represents a key step toward a more sustainable and resilient transportation industry.
