Clean Energy Conferences Roundup: December 2014

rp_Source-National-Retail-Federation-Flickr-300x200.jpgEach month, the Energy Exchange rounds up a list of top clean energy conferences around the country. Our list includes conferences at which experts from the EDF Clean Energy Program will be speaking, plus additional events that we think our readers may benefit from marking on their calendars.

Top clean energy conferences featuring EDF experts in December:

Dec 3: Abundance or Scarcity? Re-examining U.S. Oil and Gas Policy, Washington, D.C.
Speaker: Elgie Holstein, Senior Director for Strategic Planning

  • Recent growth in domestic oil and gas production is transforming the U.S. energy sector and challenging the paradigm of energy scarcity that has underpinned federal policy for the last 40 years. Join us to hear leading energy experts discuss this topic and examine policy issues related to exports, infrastructure, natural gas as a transportation fuel, and the climate.

Dec 7-10: 2014 Behavior, Energy, & Climate Change Conference, Washington, D.C.
Speaker: Jorge Madrid, Coordinator, Alliances and Partnerships

  • Entering into its eighth year, Behavior, Energy, & Climate Change Conference (BECC) is the premier event focused on understanding individual and organizational behavior and decision-making related to energy usage, greenhouse gas emissions, climate change, and sustainability. 2014 will build on the overwhelming success of previous BECC conferences, at which over 700 participants discussed innovative policy and program strategies, shared important research findings, and engaged in building dynamic new networks and collaborations. BECC’s goal is to encourage research, policy, and programs that promote low-carbon behavior.  BECC 2014 is convened by the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy, the Precourt Energy Efficiency Center, Stanford University, and the California Institute for Energy and Environment, University of California.

Other top clean energy conferences across the U.S. in December:

Dec 2-3: National Summit on Smart Grid & Climate Change, Washington, DC

  • The National Summit on Smart Grid & Climate Change will bring together policymakers, utilities, technology companies, and a wide variety of environmental and energy stakeholders to address the role of smart grid technologies and practices in mitigating and adapting to climate change. The summit will aim to connect the dots between smart grid and climate change, and establish an understanding that smart grid can be an essential part of any climate action planning, whether in response to government emission restrictions (e.g. EPA’s Regulations under 111(d) of the Clean Air Act), or in preparation for various climate change events and scenarios (e.g. severe weather events like Superstorm Sandy).

Dec 2-4: Renewable Energy Markets Conference, Sacramento, CA

  • Renewable Energy Markets (REM) is the clean energy industry’s most important annual event focused on the states, businesses, organizations, and households that choose clean, renewable electricity every day. Since 1996, REM has been the leading forum for the clean energy marketplace, and is attended by leaders from federal and state governments, large corporate purchasers, the nation’s leading utilities and electricity generators, and marketers from around the world. REM is organized by the nonprofit Center for Resource Solutions, with significant support from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Dec 5: Texas Energy Storage Summit, Austin, TX

  • The Energy Storage Association is hosting the first ever Texas Energy Storage Summit in Austin, bringing attendees an in-depth focus on the opportunities and markets available in Texas and the ERCOT system. A leader in modernizing the energy grid – and the state with the most expansive deployment of wind energy – Texas is a prime example of where innovative companies who understand the dynamic needs of the grid can capitalize on opportunity. This one day summit will bring together energy industry leaders from around the country to discuss the policies and best practices that are bringing energy storage to the forefront of conversations around the future of the grid, renewable deployment, and system planning.

Dec 9-10: Greentech Media US Solar Market Insight 2014, San Diego, CA

  • Now in its fourth year, this two-day conference is essential for anyone involved, or looking to get involved, in the U.S. solar industry. Based on over five years of analysis of installation data, the event dissects cost trends, discusses the future of project finance and business models, and examines the potential of individual states and market segments.

Dec 9-11: Renewable Energy World Conference & Expo, Orlando, FL

  • This year’s Renewable Energy World will consist of five tracks covering the renewable industries hottest topics: Large-scale Renewables; Distributed Generation; Utility Integration; Renewables and the Global Market; and Innovative Energy Partnerships.
