Much of the success or failure of the new law now hinges on how well it is implemented. There are both a critical need and numerous opportunities for those who have a stake in improving our chemical safety system to engage in shaping how the law will be implemented.<\/p>\n<p>To that end, EDF has developed an <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.edf.org\/health\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/11\/files\/2016\/10\/EDF-Lautenberg-Act-Engagement-Opportunities-FINAL.pdf\">Engagement Guide <\/a>that provides an overview of some of the key provisions in the Lautenberg Act and associated opportunities for stakeholder engagement, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Safety Standard and Vulnerable Subpopulations<\/li>\n<li>Science Advisory Committee on Chemicals<\/li>\n<li>Prioritizing Chemicals in Use<\/li>\n<li>Risk Evaluations of Existing Chemicals Deemed High-Priority<\/li>\n<li>First Chemicals to be Reviewed<\/li>\n<li>Restrictions on Chemicals that Present an Unreasonable Risk<\/li>\n<li>New Chemicals Entering the Market<\/li>\n<li>Transparency and Information Access<\/li>\n<li>Legal Recourses<\/li>\n<li>Preemption of State Authority<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I hope you find it useful!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Richard Denison, Ph.D.,\u00a0is a Lead Senior Scientist.
