{"id":1325,"date":"2011-04-15T10:32:56","date_gmt":"2011-04-15T15:32:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.edf.org\/nanotechnology\/?p=1325"},"modified":"2024-02-12T11:01:14","modified_gmt":"2024-02-12T16:01:14","slug":"acc-on-safe-chemicals-act-of-2011-if-you-cant-say-anything-nice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.edf.org\/health\/2011\/04\/15\/acc-on-safe-chemicals-act-of-2011-if-you-cant-say-anything-nice\/","title":{"rendered":"ACC on Safe Chemicals Act of 2011:  If you can\u2019t say anything nice \u2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Richard Denison, Ph.D.<\/em><em>, is a Senior Scientist.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cspa.org\/infocenter\/2011\/04\/cspa-responds-to-senator-lautenberg%e2%80%99s-introduction-of-%e2%80%9csafe-chemicals-act-of-2011%e2%80%9d\/\">Consumer Specialty Products Association<\/a> found some nice things to say about it.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/us.vocuspr.com\/Newsroom\/Query.aspx?SiteName=DupontNew&amp;Entity=PRAsset&amp;SF_PRAsset_PRAssetID_EQ=120377&amp;XSL=PressRelease&amp;Cache=False\">DuPont did too<\/a>.\u00a0 Even the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/npra-reiterates-need-for-responsible-tsca-modernization-119870149.html\">National Petrochemical &amp; Refiners Association<\/a> acknowledged some improvements.<\/p>\n<p>And the American Chemistry Council?\u00a0 <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Maybe they\u2019re just slow readers over there, but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/acc-responds-to-introduction-of-senator-lautenbergs-chemical-safety-legislation-119871864.html\">ACC didn\u2019t manage to find one good thing to say<\/a> about the <a href=\"http:\/\/lautenberg.senate.gov\/newsroom\/record.cfm?id=332785\">2011 version of the Safe Chemicals Act<\/a>\u00a0(S. 847), <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.edf.org\/nanotechnology\/2011\/04\/14\/tsca-reform-2-0-aka-safe-chemicals-act-of-2011-tastes-great-less-filling\/\">introduced yesterday<\/a> \u2013 a bill that by my count includes more than a <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.edf.org\/nanotechnology\/files\/2011\/04\/Summary-of-key-changes-in-Safe-Chemicals-Act-of-2011-vs.-2010-v2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dozen significant changes responsive to concerns<\/a> raised by ACC and other industry players in the debate over reform of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).<\/p>\n<p>Seems to me that ACC\u2019s members really ought to be asking themselves whether their trade association is working in their best interests.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Richard Denison, Ph.D., is a Senior Scientist.
