Credit: NWS.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>Today in the Charlotte Observer newspaper,\u00a0 EDF\u2019s Chief Ocean Scientist <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.edf.org\/edfish\/2010\/03\/02\/an-interview-with-edf%e2%80%99s-chief-oceans-scientist-doug-rader\/\" target=\"_self\">Doug Rader<\/a><\/strong> explained why the Southeast isn\u2019t yet tripping over tar balls in an op-ed titled, \u201c<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.charlotteobserver.com\/2010\/07\/15\/1562910\/bp-oil-spill-not-in-our-backyard.html\" target=\"_blank\">BP oil spill not in our backyard \u2013 yet<\/a><\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For the most part, Southeasterners can thank an eddy named Franklin, which has kept oil out of the currents heading toward the Florida Keys. Instead, Franklin is pushing it westward. But Franklin won\u2019t last forever, and the normal loop current\u00a0 is already starting to reestablish itself.
