{"id":811,"date":"2009-08-12T12:08:49","date_gmt":"2009-08-12T17:08:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.edf.org\/climate411\/?p=811"},"modified":"2009-08-12T12:08:49","modified_gmt":"2009-08-12T17:08:49","slug":"stand-up-to-big-oil-attend-a-town-hall-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.edf.org\/climate411\/2009\/08\/12\/stand-up-to-big-oil-attend-a-town-hall-meeting\/","title":{"rendered":"Stand Up to Big Oil: Attend a Town Hall Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Why should you go to a Congressional town hall meeting and stand\u00a0up for strong action on clean energy?<\/p>\n<p>Because,  according to the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em>, the American Petroleum Institute, <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.wsj.com\/washwire\/2009\/08\/11\/lobby-groups-to-use-town-hall-tactics-to-oppose-climate-bill\/\">the lobbying group for Big Oil, is organizing their troops<\/a> to pack town hall meetings.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, they admired the work of the  anti-health insurance reform protesters, so they&#8217;re spending some of their  billions in profits to make congressmen believe Americans don&#8217;t want clean  energy.\u00a0 As we wrote earlier, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.edf.org\/climate411\/2009\/08\/12\/new-poll-americans-like-the-clean-energy-bill\/\">most Americans DO support clean energy<\/a>. But that won&#8217;t matter if our elected officials don&#8217;t hear  from our side, too.<\/p>\n<p>So please <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edf.org\/page.cfm?tagID=45837 \">see where your representatives are holding a town hall <\/a>meeting, and go  stand up for clean energy.<\/p>\n<p>If there isn&#8217;t a town hall in your area, you can still weigh in. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edf.org\/page.cfm?tagID=44728\">Call\u00a0your Senator&#8217;s office<\/a> and tell them how you feel.<\/p>\n<p>Whichever way you speak up, the point is the same &#8212; Big Oil is trying to manufacture a picture of Americans that just isn&#8217;t true.
