The signers include Environmental Defense Fund, Alcoa, and General Electric, among others.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edf.org\/documents\/7955_Building_trades_Boxer_letter_May2108.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">AFL-CIO sent a letter of endorsement [PDF]<\/a> to Barbara Boxer (D-California).<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edf.org\/documents\/7956_Journeymen_letter_Boxer.PDF\" target=\"_blank\">United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices sent a letter of endorsement [PDF]<\/a> to Sen. Boxer.<\/li>\n<li>A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ihea.com\/news-and-events\/news-releases\/ihea-supports-climate-change-legislation.php\">letter to the Senate signed by 30 national hunting and fishing groups<\/a> endorses the bill, and in particular its fish and wildlife provisions.<\/li>\n<li>A <a href=\"http:\/\/catholicsandclimatechange.org\/pdf\/actionalert_june08.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">letter from the Catholic Coalition on Climate Change [PDF]<\/a> urges people to contact their Senators to support the bill and its provisions for assisting the poor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The opposition is active as well. For example, the group Americans for Balanced Energy Choices &#8211; a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sourcewatch.org\/index.php?title=Americans_for_Balanced_Energy_Choices\">front for the coal industry<\/a> (see this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.grist.org\/news\/2008\/01\/18\/abec\/index.html\">Grist post<\/a>) &#8211; is <a href=\"http:\/\/abecmember.org\/dsp\/abecMember.cfm\">urging people to oppose the bill<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And meanwhile, the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.edf.org\/climate411\/2008\/06\/04\/reading_entire_bill\/\">stalling tactics in the Senate<\/a> continue.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This post is by Sheryl Canter, an online writer and editorial manager at Environmental Defense Fund.
