According to the BlueGreen Alliance, the IRA will spur an estimated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bluegreenalliance.org\/site\/9-million-good-jobs-from-climate-action-the-inflation-reduction-act\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">900,000 U.S. manufacturing jobs<\/a> over the next decade. These jobs include skilled union operators, manufacturing engineers, and frontline leadership. LG Energy Solution, which manufactures batteries for electric vehicles and energy storage devices, announced in March 2023 that it is quadrupling its initial investment in its Queen Creek battery manufacturing complex, bringing the total investment to $5.5 billion. While production is not scheduled to begin until 2025, LG is expected to be Queen Creek\u2019s single largest employer. As Mayor Julia Wheatley explained in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.queencreekaz.gov\/Home\/Components\/News\/News\/12776\/13\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>, the investment \u201cwill create a positive ripple effect for the region and the state, bringing local jobs, infrastructure and capital investment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>LG\u2019s expansion is one of the latest in a series of major battery and electric vehicle manufacturing investments that Arizona has landed <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.edf.org\/climate411\/2023\/08\/01\/new-data-shows-arizona-ev-jobs-and-investments-are-soaring\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">since the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act<\/a> \u2014 <strong>helping to cement the state\u2019s reputation as \u201can innovation hub for renewable energy,\u201d Governor Katie Hobbs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.queencreekaz.gov\/Home\/Components\/News\/News\/12776\/453\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>Bryan County, Georgia: Hyundai Mobis to create over 1,000 jobs with new EV Supplier Plant<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.edf.org\/climate411\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/7\/files\/\/IRA-Profiles-GA.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23432\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.edf.org\/climate411\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/7\/files\/\/IRA-Profiles-GA.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.edf.org\/climate411\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/7\/files\/IRA-Profiles-GA.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/blogs.edf.org\/climate411\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/7\/files\/IRA-Profiles-GA-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.edf.org\/climate411\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/7\/files\/IRA-Profiles-GA-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.edf.org\/climate411\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/7\/files\/IRA-Profiles-GA-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Georgia\u2019s EV industry has seen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.georgia.org\/press-release\/second-global-automotive-supplier-hyundai-metaplant-create-1500-jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">explosive growth<\/a> in the past few years, with more than 30 EV-related projects and 18,000 jobs announced since 2020. Bryan County, located along the Georgia coast near Savannah, is one of the latest communities to see massive investment and jobs from the EV supply chain that\u2019s being incentivized by the IRA. Hyundai Mobis, a large automotive supplier, <strong>will <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/623606\/hyundai-mobis-build-plant-georgia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">invest $926 million<\/a> in a plant that will build powertrains for Hyundai\u2019s EVs<\/strong>. This plant alone is expected to create <strong>1,500 new jobs<\/strong> and complements Hyundai Motor Group\u2019s investment in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.georgia.org\/press-release\/second-global-automotive-supplier-hyundai-metaplant-create-1500-jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EV and battery manufacturing facility<\/a>, also conveniently located in Bryan County.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/623606\/hyundai-mobis-build-plant-georgia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>, <strong>H.S. Oh, Vice President of Hyundai Mobis Electric Powertrain Business Unit<\/strong>, said the company\u2019s announcement reflects \u201can acceleration in the development of the EV supply chain in Georgia\u2019s auto industry,\u201d and that Mobis is \u201clooking forward to providing high-quality work opportunities to the growing local workforce.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.georgiaquickstart.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Georgia Quick Start<\/a>, a state-funded workforce training program with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canarymedia.com\/articles\/clean-energy-jobs\/this-georgia-program-is-training-a-huge-cleantech-manufacturing-workforce\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">strong track record<\/a> of preparing workers for new clean tech opportunities, is expected to help train workers in the state for these rapidly growing EV jobs.<\/p>\n<h3>Pueblo, Colorado: CS Wind expands world\u2019s largest wind turbine tower manufacturing plant<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.edf.org\/climate411\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/7\/files\/\/IRA-Profiles-CO.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23433\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.edf.org\/climate411\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/7\/files\/\/IRA-Profiles-CO.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.edf.org\/climate411\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/7\/files\/IRA-Profiles-CO.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/blogs.edf.org\/climate411\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/7\/files\/IRA-Profiles-CO-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.edf.org\/climate411\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/7\/files\/IRA-Profiles-CO-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.edf.org\/climate411\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/7\/files\/IRA-Profiles-CO-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>CS Wind, a major supplier for global wind power companies, is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.burnsmcd.com\/news\/wind-turbine-tower-manufacturing-plant\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">expanding<\/a> the <strong>world\u2019s largest wind turbine tower manufacturing plant<\/strong> in Pueblo. Fueled in part by the IRA, its expansion will more than double the company\u2019s wind turbine tower production, <strong>boosting overall production to some 10,000 turbine tower sections a year and creating 850 new jobs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Manufacturing has been a <a href=\"https:\/\/gazette.com\/business\/pueblo-economy-growing-with-expansion-of-worlds-largest-wind-tower-manufacturing-site\/article_8baef9e2-d8e9-11ed-96e7-d32153598c72.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">big driver of Pueblo\u2019s economy<\/a> since 1880s, starting with steel production. Over the years, the town has seen its manufacturing base expand into the aerospace industry, as well as building materials like brick and cement and more recently, clean energy. As Pueblo Mayor Nick Gradisar told <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chieftain.com\/story\/business\/2023\/04\/04\/pueblo-wind-manufacturing-facility-plans-to-hire-850-new-positions-by-2028\/70081223007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Pueblo Chieftain<\/a><\/em>, \u201cThat proud manufacturing history continues with this facility and the expansion of this facility. Marshall, a town of nearly 7,000 people, may be the new epicenter of that shift. Ford Motor Company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgemi.com\/business-watch\/ford-ev-battery-plant-marshall-michigan-megasite-gets-1b-incentives\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> in February 2023 that it plans to <strong>invest $3.5 billion in a new EV battery manufacturing facility in Marshall, creating 2,500 jobs<\/strong>. The company will partner with Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd (CATL), the world&#8217;s largest battery company, to produce batteries with a different chemistry \u2014 called <a href=\"https:\/\/media.ford.com\/content\/fordmedia\/fna\/us\/en\/news\/2023\/02\/13\/ford-taps-michigan-for-new-lfp-battery-plant--new-battery-chemis.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries<\/a> \u2014 which are expected to be lower cost. Initial battery production at the plant is slated for 2026, and <strong>Ford says it will be capable of <a href=\"https:\/\/media.ford.com\/content\/fordmedia\/fna\/us\/en\/news\/2023\/02\/13\/ford-taps-michigan-for-new-lfp-battery-plant--new-battery-chemis.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">powering 400,000 of its future EVs<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Ford\u2019s investment, which will benefit from IRA incentives, could be game-changing for Marshall. As Marshall Mayor Jim Schwartz described in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bridgemi.com\/business-watch\/ford-ev-battery-plant-marshall-michigan-megasite-gets-1b-incentives\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>, \u201cThis investment in the local community will lead to an influx of new jobs to Marshall and economic development throughout the area.\u201d In fact, the State of Michigan expects that the new Ford factory will generate <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/whitmer\/news\/press-releases\/michigan-won-2500-jobs-3-billion-investment-from-ford-facility-in-marshall\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">over $29.7 billion in personal income<\/a> through direct jobs and jobs created by new economic growth and local spending over the next 20 years<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A year since the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) was signed into law, this historic climate legislation has already led to $278 billion in private investment that will support more than 170,000 clean energy jobs across the country.
