{"id":1484,"date":"2009-12-15T14:04:22","date_gmt":"2009-12-15T19:04:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.edf.org\/climate411\/?p=1484"},"modified":"2009-12-15T17:14:13","modified_gmt":"2009-12-15T22:14:13","slug":"two-new-polls-on-global-warming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.edf.org\/climate411\/2009\/12\/15\/two-new-polls-on-global-warming\/","title":{"rendered":"Two New Polls on Global Warming"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two new polls released today have some good news for the fight against climate change.<\/p>\n<p>First, according to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/news\/washington\/2009-12-14-climate-poll_N.htm?loc=interstitialskip\">USA Today\/Gallup poll<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A solid majority of Americans support the idea of a global treaty that would require the United States to reduce significantly greenhouse gas emissions.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The poll found that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>55 percent endorse a binding accord to limit greenhouse gases<\/li>\n<li>Two-thirds (66 percent) of young people ages 18 to 29 support an accord<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>USA Today says the results should provide some encouragement for President Obama as he gets ready for his trip to Copenhagen.<\/p>\n<p>A separate <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/hostednews\/ap\/article\/ALeqM5gox9Zdh0GPPNR0NlWXqEskdhSUiwD9CJR7800\">Associated Press-Stanford University poll<\/a> finds that most Americans think fighting climate change will be good for our economy.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>40 percent say U.S. action to slow global warming will create jobs<\/li>\n<li>46 percent say it would boost the economy.<\/li>\n<li>Less than one third say it will hurt the economy or result in fewer jobs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>AP calls it:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A sign the public is showing more faith in President Barack Obama&#8217;s economic arguments for limiting heat-trapping gases than in Republican claims that the actions would kill jobs.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two new polls released today have some good news for the fight against climate change.
