# A Debate About Our Video Competition

A few weeks ago we posted about our [video design competition – $10,000 to the winner](https://blogs.edf.org/climate411/2008/09/24/visual_design_competition/) – for depicting how a cap on greenhouse gases can solve our addiction to oil. Joe Romm on Climate Progress had a problem with this – [said we were asking the impossible](http://climateprogress.org/2008/10/09/edfs-bizarre-10000-contest-what-is-a-carbon-cap-and-how-will-it-cure-our-oil-addiction/) since a cap wouldn’t do this.

I responded to Romm’s objection on the Environmental Economics blog with a post titled [“Bizarre”? No. Tough? Yes.](http://www.env-econ.net/2008/10/bizarre-no-toug.html) But that wasn’t the end of it. Romm fired back, [accusing EDF of “magical thinking”](http://climateprogress.org/2008/10/15/edfs-and-mits-magical-thinking-on-carbon-caps-and-oil/).

Stay tuned – I’ll be posting a response to Romm’s second post this week.
