Like every good concept in the newish millennium, Environmental Defense Fund’s work on fleet efficiency is going multi-media.
We teamed up with stresslimitdesign to create an engaging minute-long tilt shift video about the savings potential if all US corporate fleets took some simple steps to improve efficiency.
For those of you not yet in the know, fleet efficiency is about reducing fuel consumption by taking incremental actions, including choosing better routes, avoiding idling and moving to higher MPG vehicles. These actions add up to fuel savings and emission reductions, especially when multiplied by the millions of vehicles in U.S. corporate fleets.

Great video, but misses a HUGE opportunity to promote alternative fuels and advanced technologies, many of which are cleaner and get better MPG than conventional gas. Not to mention that it decreases our dependence on foreign oil.
The focus of the video and much of the fleet work at EDF is about leveraging the efficiencies that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and fuel costs today. Steps such as right-sizing vehicles and choosing efficient routes should be more widely adopted regardless of the fuel or technology used by the vehicle. These low-hanging fruit also make economic sense now. Moving to lower-carbon sources of fuel and more efficient propulsion technology is of course needed too. We encourage companies to explore these options for reducing their carbon footprint and use them where they can meet the job requirements and deliver clear carbon benefits. But, alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles ARE available today. You seem to imply otherwise. Also with all the government funds available now to off-set initial purchase price increase, it does make economic sense to do it now. (Proof of point: "Calling All California Truck Fleets- Free Money to Purchase Hybrids Now Available" link on the left!) Behavorial changes coupled with using alternative fuels and/or technologies can create an even greater benefit. Don't get me wrong, I agree with what EDF is promoting, I just see it as a missed opportunity to not even mention the words "alternative fuel" in this video. Especially in terms of fleets, as this is where the greatest impact can be acheived in regards to vehicle emissions. Thanks for responding.
