Using a window film can be a great way to save money on your energy bill while on a budget, and it can make your energy efficient window looking great as well!

Katie just finished her fellowship and here’s what she found out when she ran the calculations on installing window film at Sodexo:

“Unfortunately, the ROI from the initial assessment we had done for the buildings at my site did not turn out as I had hoped. For the four buildings in question, it would take 9 to 11 years to pay back the initial investment. This is too long for me to recommend it as a good opportunity. The particularly long paybacks appear to arise in this case due to the fact that the buildings are all one-story structures that for the most part already have tinting on the windows.

Despite these results, window film is now at least an area of potential future investment that the managers at the site will consider if they renew their lease or move to a new building. And in the meantime, I have a long list of other opportunities. As for most issues related to environmental sustainability, we will need to integrate several approaches to reducing our energy use if we want to be successful.”
