Hi,
You do an incredible job. USA have to take responsability for your pollution of the world and I hope that you will sign some sort of agreement in Copenhagen this year. You do great! Continue your work!!! Love Anita in Sweden

Great video, representing great work! I am particularly excited about the changes you want made to the fisheries. It would be wonderful to see them implemented. I hope you can make an impact in Copenhagen, even if the main players aren't present. Keep on keeping on!

Who has the last say about our precious Mother Earth.
The unseen class uses fear to control society and the establishment; for example even though the 911 incident was an inside job and coverup, this catastrophe was still used to manipulate Nations, and control the American people through fear of the threat of terror. Altering the constitutional rights of individual freedom, violating and disgracing the Constitution of the United States of America. And what was done about this illegal situation?
My word, the price we pay for the entertainment of these fools. And by the way who's in charge of the intelligent agency, the loony tunes? Advisedly is the puppet master, the Beast of power and control, the ones who makes the final decisions, they are the mad hatters.
The FBI, CIA other so call agencies that protect the rights of the American, are but patsies, human robots who heel to the rules and regulations laid down by the Beast ofpowrand control.

If five people out of six BELIEVE there hiding the truth and living a lie, those five people would be found guilty. But on the other hand, that one person who BLIEVE that that lie is the truth would be found innocent, because he believe he is living with the truth.
The other five will never know the truth because they BELIEVE they are living in a lie.
The case, truth about situations of this sort is always found with fear of, what if, so is covered up.
And the insane cycle continues until the day someone will arrive, one with the heart of we the people, without fear of the Beast of power and control. Who will overcome all obstacle of hate, envy, greed, and lust for power and control.
Take care and stay well

I am proud to be part of such a wonderful organization and group of individuals! You should be proud of all the hardwork you have done to improve this world! It is refreshing and inspiring to know that there are still ethical, moral and concerned individuals in this world who care about and therefore want to protect the environment, wildlife and humanity like myself and who are doing just that through their actions. Thank you and a happy and peaceful holiday to all of you at EDF!

Make hard rule and regulations that protect the cycles and seasons of Nature and life forms, that we, humanity and future generation depend on for a continuation of existence. It is a crime, what big business done for human comfort, to our precious Mother Earth.

What we have accomplished is truly amazing. It is shameful that as humans we feel we have the right to destroy our planet. If we could only eliminate greed, our jobs would be that much easier. We could live as nature and God intended-harmoniously. We are onlu stewards here. Despite our victories, we continue to fail miserably, so much damage, so much ignorance.

I belong to many environmental organizations and have become very frustrated by those organizations lack of understanding of how to present the problems of burning fossil fuels to the public. Since you can not definitively prove global warming, and I wonder how many people are more worried about being able to afford to feed themselves than drowning Polar Bears in the Arctic, I really think you should address the effects of acid rain on lakes, mercury in our water getting into the fish we eat that can cause birth defects as well as being neurotoxic, and the particulate matter that gets into the air that despite advances made in the medical treatment of asthma, deaths from asthma have not decreased over the years. These are things that people can relate to so why not get people's attention about this problem in a way they can understand and relate to?

Hi Shari,

Thank you for your support and your comments. EDF has played a very big role over decades in working on air pollution and human health issues. Here is the Health section of our website, which offers some details: http://www.edf.org/page.cfm?tagID=67.

Notably, we worked to implement a cap and trade solution to acid rain pollution, which you can read about here: http://www.edf.org/page.cfm?tagID=1085. This success story has formed the basis for the advocacy of a similar program to cut America's global warming pollution.

We've worked on many types and sources of air pollution, some of which you can read about here: http://www.edf.org/page.cfm?tagID=97.

It is true we have made our global warming fight our top priority over the last 5 years. That's because it's a huge threat and we feel it is critical we do everything we can to solve the crisis. As you are probably aware, a warmer planet will worsen hazardous air pollution and increase threats to human health, which we've documented here: http://www.edf.org/page.cfm?tagID=1590.

I hope some of this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,
Sam Parry

Excellent work done. BUT Pl note the planet has other nations on it apart from the US.Each one has it's own problems and specific requirements.I for one am tired of working on the program and about to retre for want of public awareness hence support in my part of the world where the government, educational institutions, commercial and industrial houses strongly believe that Global Warming is a natural process!!Further:- "There is no need for small nature reserves or habitat rebuilding". "God will do it-it is HIS duty!!" My efforts in propagating endangered species of plants endemic to my area and the in-situ rehabilitation of the same has been criticised.
I give below a few points on which we should emphasise when dealing with INDIA which happens to be on planet Earth!!Are:-
1) Mother Earth needs a population policy/per nation.
2) HRD according to need of the nation
3) BAN on petrol driven motor car manufacture. Replacement with Mass Transportation systems.
4) Petroleum Mafia to pay for most of the damage done as they are the ones responsibe for this chaos.
5) Industrial waste disposal fumes/chemicals strictly controlled.
6)Special monetary help to make privately owned small nature conservation efforts, i.e. propagation of endangered species of plants and their in-situ rehabilitation by school/college children as well as all commercial/fianancial/industrial houses to rebuild lost habitats matching plants with the insect world supported by each.
7) Special monetary help to people working on aquatic life support systems/biological oxygen contents etc. It is a shame to drink water out of bottles when nature provids us with natural mineral water why should we pollute it?
8) Delaying marriages every alternate year in countires like India/China.
9) Religious heads to be made aware of this danger so that they donot adopt methods of population explosion.
10) Capital punishment for those indulging in corrupt practices in denying basic infrastructural efforts in rural areas and making personal fortunes out of public funds. Democracy to be redifined.
11) Sex education to be made compulsory all over the world. It is time we rise above our "bodies" and balance our desires to our population requirements. Media be controlled accordingly.
12) Urbanisation to be curbed and rural development be given priority in every country.
13) STEP=Sustainable Tourism eliminates poverty…and gives identity to every village in the world.
14) Volunteering to be promoted and made obligatory by every country in every field.
15) Organic farming to be promoted with full force.

Interesting read. This is so big and complicated to fix. When I was a kid, good conservation and responsible stewardship of our planet was a no brainer, at least in my little bubble. Somewhere along the way, these values seemed to be replaced with gross and irresponsible consumption with us demanding more, bigger and better stuff. There weren't so many of us then. Now, to Sharat's point above, our global population growth is off the charts increasing our environmental impact. Thanks to Parry, Susuki, Gore and to the rest, thankfully too many to mention, the spiral is starting an upward swing to rational and positive corrective action that has no border. With our persistence and a united state of mind we will succeed. Thanks to all who think our planets beauty is necessary and worth saving. Port Moody, Canada

Our precious and sacred Earth has provided all the vital elements and tools for human existence. The nature in the struggled for survival has lead us to create this civilization.
Imagine, the way we think, our belief system, our thoughts on morality and so forth, was sculptured, chiseled, by the nature of the tools available in our battle to survive as the human species. This, all that we are, we owe it to the natural cycles and changes of our environment, providing all we needed to survive and continue to exist as, so call intelligent species. And we express our gratitude by letting, continuing violation of the harmonies and balance of our Mother Earth.
Understanding this, gives us an insight on why is it important to honor the ancestors by respecting, preserving and protecting our sacred Earth.
We must not let the craving for wealth continue altering, chapping and cutting our sacred Earth into more pieces for human gain and comfort. It is wrong, evil, to let the destruction and deterioration of our environment for a wealthy cause. Capitalism hold the souls of man, the price tag attach to the environment must be remove. We damaged part our sacred Earth for human comfort and gain, jeopardizing the future of our children, and the existence of other life forms, how sick is that. As an intelligent race of Human, instead of caring for the planet of our birth, we are like parasite, a growing cancerous mess on our sacred Mother Earth.

Pleasure is the great motivator of any human being, whenever we commit an act that stimulates our senses, the same pattern is repeated in anticipation of pleasurable sensation. The images, symbols of possessiveness, activates an unquenchable drive for more of the same. Up to a point of this drive for satisfaction blinds the foresight of the intellect. For me this is why we are in this predicament.
Stay well and take care

I am very proud to hear of the many accomplishments of EDF and their supporters. It makes me feel that we might actually be winning the war. Are you involved at all in the fight to protect wild horses and burros on American public land? The BLM is practicing a policy of management to extinction and has greatly stepped up their efforts to eradicate these animals before they can be stopped by the growing public outcry. By the end of 2010, we will have lost 60% of the horses and burros that lived on public lands in the early 1970's. We desperately need help to stop this from happening.

I am a big believer in Global warming. How or why do i believe this? If I can answer the question of whether carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas or not by saying yes, it is a green house gas. Then if I look at any busy street in any city in america or the world and observe all the trucks and cars emitting carbon dioxide gas from their tailpipes and observe all the electricity being used to light and power most homes, businesses most likely coming from coal power plants. I also ask if i think it is likely that all the trees, grasses, and other vegetation in the world is able to absorb all of this carbon dioxide from the air. I think it is not likely all of the vegetation in the world is able to absorb all of the carbon dioxide coming from tailpipes and coal power plants. So it is most likely true that carbon dioxide molecules are rising in the atmosphere and causing a green house effect and causing climate change.
What I really want to say is that the cost for solar/wind energy from solar collectors and windmills can be close to cost for energy from fossil fuels if not now but in the near future maybe a year or 2 away. I want to believe that the solar/wind technology costs will be reduced by better cheaper materials and improved efficiency making the solar/wind systems affordable enough so that home owners and business people will want to install solar/wind equipment on their roofs. If the cost for solar/wind energy is at least competitve with fossil fuels than their is no reason not to use solar/wind energy generation for main source of energy. The world could use solar/wind energy not just because it fights global warming, but because it is cheaper than using fossil energy.

Comment from john2780
November 24th, 2009 at 2:19 pm

I also want to add that I believe There are many highly intelligent engineers and scientists in the world who will help make solar/wind energy competitive and even cheaper than using energy from fossil fuels. Unfortunately I am not an engineer myself but I do have some solar ideas I intend to work on in the future which could help make solar energy cheaper. I also think that cars and trucks could be adapted to use hydrogen energy instead of gasoline and diesel for their internal combustion engines. This hydrogen could be produced from efficient affordable solar/wind systems that homeowners, businesses install because these solar/wind systems are cheaper than using fossil fuels. We should use fossil fuels as a material to make things that are made with steel and aluminum and other metals now. Instead of making something made out of steel make the item with carbon fiber.
