The stars and EDF are missing the boat thinking that conserving energy will stop global warming. The greater energy efficiency concept does nothing to remove any of the 35% and growing rapidly overload of GHGs mainly carbon dioxide that will keep melting ice, damaging more coral and rasing sea levels. Cutting emissions thru greater efficiency means that we will still be adding to the overload just a little more slowly than in the past decade perhaps, so GW effects will worsen. By the way increasing efficiency of fossil fuel used in vehicles by 25% will very likely be offset by 25% increase in vehicles on the road.
I posted a comment #13 on NYTimes Green, Inc. Blog, Mar. 30 on the write-up titled Home Green Home to point out again that the massive ever-expanding messes of organic and sewage wastes are a resource to be used in getting some control of unneeded GHG emissions and big control of developing water pollution problems. I urge readers here to check out that comment and start asking why ED does not call for the action of using pyrolysis on the messes. That would stop the natural biodegrading of the messes preventing them from reemitting GHGs needlessly and would destroy all germs, toxics and drugs to stop those hazards from having a chance to pollute water by seeping out or being washed out from dumps.
Get ED activate to do more than try to enlist some "stars" knowing nothing about GW except what ED puts in front of them. Get ED aware of charcoal jobs as inert charcoal is what pyrolysis will convert the messes to along with some organic chemicals to be used after refining for fuel or to make drugs etc.. Dr. J. Interesting to see that no one at ED makes any counter comments to what I commented above. Dr. J. Singmaster
