I have a friend who has read and accepts completely the book, "Unstoppable Global Warming (Every 1500 Years)" by S. Fred Singer and Dennis T. Avery. Whenever the conversation turns to global warming, he trots out the stuff he's read here, and since it's published by a "scientist" it must be true. Can you point me to some reputable information, studies, websites, etc. that *specifically* and effectively refute the "findings" and conclusions in this book?

I see the same thing at work, where I am on the Environmental Steering Committee. So many folks have seen or read 'something' that states that our current warming is just a part of a natural trend, and not man-made at all. It becomes routine for each to start pulling out quotes and articles from various scientists and experts on either side of the man made theory.
In the end, nobody seems to win by changing the others opinion.
So I continue to find, and print, and post articles like this one, in the hopes that someday the amount of information supporting climate change as being man-made just vastly overwhelms the view of those who say it is not man-made.
Thank You folks for all that you do in adding to the facts

Hi Nicholas,
The RealClimate blog team posted a “point-counterpoint” response to the book. (Incidentally, back in 2006 RealClimate gave Singer the “most dizzying turn-around” award for his sudden about-face from his increasingly shrill “global warming isn’t happening” stance to his new “global warming is unstoppable” story.) You can also find a terrific list of skeptical talking points and responses over at A Few Things Ill Considered.
Cheers,
Lisa
